*See Assignment sub-nav for details ASSIGNMENT 1; Powerful Learning Stories/Insight Boards DUE: 24 March for class presentation, and submit by next class. In this assignment we will use storytelling as a method to gather insights into the qualities and features of a powerful learning experience using an "insight board" and learning ecology timeline tool as a design research method to share and synthesize our findings. ASSIGNMENT 2: Design Precedents Analysis DUE: 7 April for class presentation, and submit documentation by next class Students will conduct an in-depth design precedent analysis of two learning media platforms—DIY.org and KhanAcademy.org — through a heuristic mark-up activity as individuals, and then as a project team conduct a comparative assessment of each site against a set of learning dimensions. ASSIGNMENT 3: Student, Parent, Teacher User Studies DUE: 19 April for class presentation, and submit by next class. Using a scenario walk-thru and interview technique, project teams will conduct a mixed methods user study with a key user groups (teachers, parents, youth) to better understand valued opportunities for adult facilitation, mentoring and engagement in youth's online learning activities. ASSIGNMENT 4: Learning Design Concept Presentation DUE: 30 April in class, final documentation submitted by 5/5/15 at 5pm In the final class session, teams will present their design concepts and recommendations to an OEF representative, and an interested review panel. Each group should plan a 15 minute presentation that documents key insights gained during the design research process, The presentation should envision the cycle of engagement a learner (or group of learners) would experience and describe valued opportunities for adult engagement when using the OEF mobile learning system. Allow for an additional 10 minutes of discussion afterwards with questions from the class and the review panel. |
